Tourism Infrastructure and Visitor Experience: Trends, Challenges, and Future Directions

Abstract

Tourism infrastructure is a critical determinant of visitor experience and destination competitiveness. Well-developed transportation systems, accommodation facilities, communication networks, public utilities, recreational amenities, and digital services significantly influence tourists' perceptions and satisfaction levels. As global tourism continues to evolve, destinations are increasingly investing in smart infrastructure and sustainable tourism practices to enhance visitor experiences and maintain competitiveness. However, several challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, environmental degradation, financial constraints, and technological disparities, continue to affect tourism development. This review article examines the relationship between tourism infrastructure and visitor experience by synthesizing recent literature on infrastructure development, emerging trends, and future prospects. The findings suggest that investments in sustainable and technology-driven tourism infrastructure improve destination attractiveness, visitor satisfaction, and long-term tourism growth.
