Abstract

This study is an attempt to determine the effect of fishbone diagram on improving students' expository composition writing. First year students at the English Department / college of education/University of ALQadisiyah constitute the sample of this study. The research employed a quasi-experimental design. Accordingly, the sample was divided into two groups: treatment and control. The treatment group students were taught by using fishbone diagram to teach them expository composition writing and control group students were taught expository composition writing by using a conventional method. Each group has 20 students. They were submitted to a pre-posttest. The findings of this research showed that the mean scores of the treatment learners' expository composition writing that were instructed by the use of the fishbone diagram is higher than those of the control group learners who were instructed by using a conventional method. It means that the use of fishbone diagram has a significant impact on Iraqi EFL learners' expository composition writing.
