Some Solutions to Correct Vietnamese Pronunciation Mistakes for Hmong Ethnic 5-Year-Old Children at Nursery School

Abstract

Currently, it is very urgent to improve the quality of teaching Vietnamese to Hmong ethnic 5-year-old children at nursery school. The survey results have shown that Hmong ethnic 5-year-old children at nursery school have some pronunciation mistakes of tone, the initial sound consonant, and rhymes in Vietnamese syllables. The reason for making mistakes in Vietnamese syllables pronunciation is that there are no corresponding tones, initial sound consonants, and rhymes in the Hmong language. Vietnamese syllables have a different structure, which makes it difficult for Hmong ethnic 5-year-old children to correctly perceive and often make pronunciation mistakes. Therefore, in this article, we have analyzed the cause of mistakes, proposed some solutions using Vietnamese phonetics and phonology characteristics to correct Vietnamese pronunciation mistakes for Hmong ethnic 5-year-old children. The cause of mistakes is due to the habit of pronouncing their mother tongue of Hmong ethnic 5-year-old children. The above types of Vietnamese pronunciation mistakes of Hmong ethnic 5-year-old children cause standard deviations, leading to the incorrect recognition of phonetic forms, misunderstanding the content and meaning of words, and leading to making Vietnamese misspelling. From the current situation and causes of pronunciation mistakes of Hmong ethnic 5-year-old children, we propose to apply solutions to correct Vietnamese pronunciation mistakes for them basing on Vietnamese phonetics and phonology characteristics. This solution is proposed to help nursery teachers understand phonetics and phonology characteristics as the standard of pronunciation in order, to have suitable training methods for Hmong ethnic 5-year-old children. The use of Vietnamese phonetics and phonology characteristics to practice, correct Vietnamese pronunciation mistakes for Hmong ethnic 5-year-old children will contribute to improve the quality of education at nursery schools, gradually improve the quality of education, in provinces where there are ethnic minorities and mountainous areas. The solution of using Vietnamese phonetics and phonology characteristics to correct Vietnamese pronunciation mistakes can be applied for Hmong ethnic 5-year-old children in educational activities at nursery schools, in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.
