Abstract

  • Postmodernism refers to all forms of representation as well as the new ways of depiction. This depiction refers to what is called reality and truth. These forms of representation rely upon narrative in order to validate themselves. Within this depiction, representations of art and culture demand some metanarrative to be explained, validated or justified. The emphasis of literary postmodernism had the tendency as form of writing, which is the narrative fiction. Within postmodernism, there is a tendency that accepts literature as intrinsically narrative. This paper examines the use of postmodern techniques as a characteristic feature of this literary era. Concept(s) such as discourse, and masculine/feminine. Techniques are such as irony, black humour, playfulness, parody, pastiche, temporal distortion, paranoia, transformation, minimalism, maximalism, fragmentation, metafiction, reflexiveness and self-parody, symbolism and self-conscious narrators, stream of consciousness.
