Abstract

To enhance the photovoltaic efficiency of dye-sensitized nanocrystalline TiO2 solar cells that use organic dyes as photosensitisers, we have
created novel coumarin dyes with thiophene moieties. Under AM 1.5 irradiation (100 mW cm—2), a solar-energy-to-electricity conversion
efficiency (g) of 7.7 percent was achieved with a fill factor (ff) of 0.74, an open-circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.73 volts, and a short-circuit current
density (Jsc) of 14.3 mA cm—2.
