A Historical Study on the Revolt of 1857 in Assam.

The revolt of 1857 marked a turning point in Indian history, since it marked the end of the British East India Company's control and the beginning of the British Crown's reign in India. The revolution began with the sepoys of Meerut revolting against the British; subsequently, civilians joined the revolt, giving it a new dimension. The 1857 revolution sparked a revolt in Assam as well. The Assamese middle class sparked an uprising throughout the state. Official records claim that the uprising did not expand far in Assam, but oral sources showed a different side of the insurrection, clearly demonstrating the revolt's expansion in Assam and its influence on the ordinary people. By this article an attempt has been made to discuss the impact of the Revolt of 1857 in Assam which shook the very foundation of the British rule in India and reconstruct the revolt of 1857 in Assam and also find some new aspects of the nature of the revolt in Assam which distinguished the revolt from other parts of India.
