Abstract

The lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic adversely affected the teaching-learning in the education sector. Though, the scholars imply differently on the efficacy of online teaching-learning methodology and existing literature suggest both; that online teaching method is equally effective to the face-to-face classroom teaching method, and some scholars have exhibited inefficiency of online teaching and question the efficacy of the method, no study examined the effects of the pandemic on the efficacy of the online method. The present study designed a three-study investigation to examine the consequences of the lockdown due to Covid-19 pandemic on the satisfaction of students towards online teachinglearning. The data was collected among a heterogeneous group of students (N=1316). In study 1, students' satisfaction between the face-to-face method in otherwise normal circumstances and the online method during the pandemic was compared. Study 2, examined the perception of students towards the online method in otherwise normal circumstances; and study 3 examined the quality of online teaching-learning during the lockdown. The findings suggest that; though the students' perception is positive for the online method in normal circumstances, the lockdown due to the Covid-19 negatively affected the quality of online teaching-learning, thereby negatively influenced the students' satisfaction towards online method during the lockdown. This study contributes to the existing literature on the pandemic by discovering its effects on the teaching-learning in the education sector.
