The Translation of Building Metaphors in Politics between English and Arabic.

Abstract

It is widely grasped that politics is prevalent with metaphors which have been proven as major linguistic devices used in politics, therefore many political figures make extensive use of metaphor. Adopting the conceptual theory of metaphor, this study investigates buildings' conceptualisation in political speeches delivered by Abdullah II, king of Jordan and President Trump. The study will also investigate the translatability of metaphors between English and Arabic in political speeches in the framework of the conceptual theory of metaphor. The aims of this research are to identify conceptual metaphors, and to examine the challenges and strategies of translating conceptual metaphors between Arabic and English.
