Abstract

The current research aims to identify the Identity in English poetry during the Elizabethan era (1558-1603). In order to achieve this goal, the researcher returned to the specialized sources and references in the field of English literature that deal with this topic. Among the most important findings of the research, we can mention the following: The basic elements of English poetry during that time period, which is the emotion that stems from the depths of the poet and expresses his feelings, and the idea that embodies the ideas that revolve in the poet's mind which he wants to express, and the imagination that the poet resorts to in order to express things that are impossible to happen, In addition to an important element, which is the style adopted in writing in terms of the interrelationship between the words on the one hand and the meanings indicated by these words on the other hand, and the systems that are the basis for the success of the poem. The features of identity in poetry through these purposes, which are evident in the lyric poems, the poetry of the royal court, and theatrical drama.
