Analyzing the Gap of Electric Energy Production in Iraq for the Period (2004- 2019).

Abstract

This research aims to diagnose the main factors that led to the emergence of the lack of electrical power supply to narrow the supply gap (actual production minus potential production) to draw up a production strategy that achieves satisfying the needs of society from this energy. The researchers resorted to using the analytical methodology with the help of official statistics to study the indicators affecting the production process represented by the shocks to which the Iraqi economy was exposed and the security of electric energy (lack of natural gas supplies) that pertain to the electric sector. The study concluded that the use of fuel that is not suitable for the work of these production stations instead of gas led to a decrease in the design capacity and a decrease in the total energy. In addition, more than 50% of electrical energy is lost in transmission and distribution operations. Accordingly, the study recommends adopting a local production policy away from importing from abroad, with the necessity of the Ministry directing to reduce technical and non-technical losses resulting from poor distribution of electric power. In addition, it is necessary to activate the tariff system, which costs the Iraqi economy a third of what is spent on the distribution sector, and work to address the problem of abuses that occur by individuals and private facilities on electric power.
