Abstract

The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of five-year-olds' school readiness and social skills on their elementary school adjustment in the first grade. We utilized the data of a Panel Study of Korean Children, and the subjects were 1,031 children. The instruments used to measure the variables were School Adjustment Inventory (SAI) (Chi & Jung, 2006), Assessment of School Readiness (ASR) (Murphey & Burns, 2002), and Social Skills Rating System (SSRS) (Gresham & Elliott, 1990). To process the results, the descriptive statistics, reliability verification, Pearson's product moment correlation analysis, and the analysis of multiple regression were conducted. The results showed that five-year-olds' school readiness and social skills had statistically significant positive effects on their elementary school adjustment in the first grade.
