Abstract

Traditional lifestyles and economic activities of Arctic indigenous peoples are invariably evaluated as historically established ways of using objects of fauna and flora and other natural resources and ensuring sustainable use of natural resources. At the same time, technical and cultural innovations introduced into the life of indigene ethnic groups have significantly transformed not only the ways of economic activities, but also their way of life itself, their economic strategies which have acquired the form of commodity- money relations and lesser dependence on the state of the natural environment. Changing diets, the "snowmobile revolution", the "telephone revolution", the change in values and attitudes from domestic minimalism to mass consumption of material goods has led not only to a change in the lifestyle itself, but also to an increase in the anthropogenic burden on the natural environment. The article considers the consequences and impact of innovative changes in traditional economic activities and lifestyles of indigenous peoples of the Arctic on natural resources and the ecology of their habitats.
