The Effect of Online Learning on Motivating EFL Students: Saudi Students’ and Teachers’ Perceptions

Abstract

It is expected that undergraduate students have different opinions regarding the online learning. The purpose of this study is to investigate the perceptions of students and the teachers at Taif University on the effect of online learning. This project aims to determine whether online learning positively or negatively affects students’ motivation. This study targets 102 female students who are selected from different learning paths at the college. This study employs the mixed method as a research design, with quantitative and qualitative data a survey and interviews. The findings revealed that the participants generally displayed distinctly favourable attitudes towards online learning also a great appreciation to how the online learning can easily facilitate the learning process. The study concluded that online learning can be effective in motivating students in the learning process. In addition, students find the online learning experience as easier in term if accessibility to educational resources. However, students still need a lot of care and attention during the whole process. The current study supported various pedagogical implications, including tools such as email and presentations that can be implemented through online group discussions and other techniques.
