The English Moodless Constructions

Abstract

Moodless are constructions lack mood element. The study aims at presenting the moodless constructions with their definitions, forms and functions, pointing out the most frequent types of the syntactic structures conformed in order to reveal their ability of conveying modality meanings. To achieve these aims the study adopts the following procedure by giving a full syntactic description of moodless constructions and their types. Results showed that there are two types of moodless constructions: clausal and non-clausal and they can express modality meanings in certain syntactic structures.
