FLOWERS IN SUAN SUNANDHA ROYAL GARDEN: THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FLOWERS AND THAI CULTURE

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the cultural relationship of flowers in the dimensions of meaning, belief, ritual, wisdom and tradition related to the use of flowers. This could lead to the success of findings in terms of the relationship of flowers in the cultural dimensions, the path of the birth of flowers, ritual, belief, wisdom and tradition which are distinctive and unique in the dimension of pattern design towards the creative works of art. The researcher adopted research method by the use of descriptive analysis. The scope of the data study, the researcher studied 15 types of flowers. Drawing upon the sample size of three flower experts, the data were collected by the researcher giving the interview and observation forms to collect data for analysis to form the research conclusion. The research finding indicated that 1) flowers that have a relationship with all four aspects of belief, ritual, wisdom, and traditions are jasmine flower, crown flower, globe amaranth flower, marigold flower, and lotus flower. Flowers group which have a low level of relationship or have relationship with some aspects of belief, ritual, wisdom, and tradition, include gardenia flower, Magnolia alba flower, Magnolia champaca, Anaxagorea javanica Blume, rose flower, Ixora flower, orchid flower, chrysanthemum flower, Guaiacum flower, and Butterfly bush.
