Abstract

The purpose of this research was to describe the study of structure, cultural values and traditions of rhyme pangemat function in a traditional ceremony seren taun epidemic villagers Ciptagelar Sukabumi regency in West Java. Traditions of rhyme pangemat is a rhyme story told by the interpreter rhyme in the performance ruwatan it is called mantun. Mantun traditions of seren taun at Ciptagelar is a manifestation of existence of a tradition in community Ciptagelar always maintain cultural values, preserving the customs and beliefs to the legacy of his ancestors as a tangible manifestation of the prevailing culture. Rhymes to show appreciation myth that exposure to his stories contain religious values, ethics, and aesthetics social life in the community wisely. Broadly speaking, the purpose of this study is to preserve the cultural traditions of the rhymes story. The specific purpose of this research is to: 1) see and know the story structure of the Seren Taun at Ciptagelar rhyme, 2) explore cultural values at the seren taun ceremony in the Ciptagelar indigenous community, 3) applying the value of education contained in the seren taun Ciptagelar rhyme story to modern society, 4) examines the structure which includes the implementation and its components, functions for the education, life values, local wisdom, and preservation model of oral traditions of the seren taun rhyme story. The location of this research is the village of Ciptagelar in the district of Sukabumi, West Java province. This study used a qualitative approach with etnographic descriptive method. The data collection was done by interviewing, observing, reviewing, recording, and documenting. Informants in this study were the perpetrators of ritual, the users of ritual services, community leaders, and youth leaders. Data were analized by selection, reduction, interpretation, conclusion, and verification of data. The functions of oral tradition of the rhyme story are aesthetic, pragmatic, ethical, historical, ritual, entertainment, communication, and symbolic representation. The values contained in the oral tradition of rhyme story include a family atmosphere, religion, beauty, economy, politics, mutual cooperation, and education.
