Estimating the Economic Efficiency of Sheep Rearers in Al-Hasakah Governorate/Syria Using the Data Envelopment Analysis

Abstract

The main objective of the research is to measure the economic efficiency of sheep rearers in Al-Hasakah Governorate using the data envelopment analysis method. The sample size was 313 rearers, who were selected by random sampling method from the administrative regions of Al-Hasaka Governorate. The primary data for the two seasons 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 were collected according to a questionnaire form prepared for this purpose. The findings revealed that the variable costs and the cost of feed accounted for 71.16% and 45.83% of the total production costs, respectively, additionally, the milk revenues ranked first as a main source of income with a rate of 61.90%. The results, on the other hand, revealed that levels of technical efficiency in response to changes in return on capacity ranged from a minimum of 27% to a maximum of 100%, with an average of 73.9 %, Furthermore, allocative efficiency levels ranged from a minimum of 93 % to a maximum of 100 %, with an average of 98 %; while economicefficiency levels ranged from a minimum of 27 % to a maximum of 100 %, with an average of 73.2 %.
