Abstract

Effective leadership is leadership that assists staff in performing tasks as assigned. Every organization needs effective leadership in driving the progress of the organization. In the world of education, leadership is the mainstay of school management. With effective leadership, schools can enjoy the success they deserve. More specifically, special education also requires competent leadership in managing special education well. Ethical and responsible leaders will ensure that special education teachers do their job well. Leaders like this always guide teachers in various matters. This study was conducted to explore the elements of guidance by leaders in carrying out their duties. A qualitative approach was used by interviewing 20 respondents consisting of special education teachers in the district of Batu Pahat, Johor, Malaysia. The findings of the study found that, there are five important aspects in guidance by special education leaders namely guidance, monitoring, discussion, question and answer and evaluation. It is hoped that this study can help future researchers in conducting further research.
